So I left off so long ago at the Danskin Triathlon. After that race we headed back to our hotel to clean up and head out on vacation. We then drove many hours down to Sunriver Oregon, arriving sometime around 11 p.m. We had a great time, so relaxing and low-key that we really didn't even take that many pictures! But here is the gist of what we did:
Relaxing. Did I mention it was relaxing? We were surrounded by trees and wildlife and bike paths and it was so quiet. In fact one of the days a deer stopped by, ate a few berries and then laid down at the end of our deck for a nap. That is even with the four kids wanting to 'just look' at the deer.
Here are the guys sleeping on the deck.

We did a lot of biking. The community has about 35 miles of bike trails so we biked everywhere. Here we are getting ready on one of our many outings.

The kids played really well together and each family brought some toys to play with so there was variety. Here is what happens when you give two four year olds and two two year olds stickers. They put them all over themselves.

There was also great food. I mean GREAT food. Each family made a dinner one night so we had mexican (yummy guacamole), italian (with amazing bruschetta), thai broccoli wraps, and caramel apple cinnamon rolls of course! (We should have gotten pictures of all of our great food but I think we were too hungry at the time)

One of the days there we decided to head to Mavericks which has a gym, pool table, arcade, climbing wall (inside and out), and a pool area. Our goal was the pool area because it has a lap pool, kids pool and wave rider. Here are the boys outside the door from the pool enjoying a very unhealthy lunch.

Swimming around the lap pool.

But the most entertaining portion of the day was when the Stellers decided to try out the wave rider. Behind that guy is Holley attempting to surf.

Unfortunately it goes down hill quickly. That slightly gray area under the water close to Holley's head is her board, and as you can guess she is no longer actually on it, so. . .

she does a little dance. . .

and is down for the count,

and takes a ride up to the top.

Now for James' turn. Notice how he immediately focuses on the camera? He is such a ham.

He tries to act all cool, like he is going to make it, but. . .

things get out of hand quickly,

and he falls, "TIMBER!", just like a tree, flat on his back,

and all the crowd that is watching immediately cringes and says " ohhhhhh!".

and let me tell you, it did look painful. In fact ALL of their falls looked very painful.

But they kept getting up and asking for more.

Now here are a few videos to help you see this in real time. They started out easy, with the boogie boards:
And yes, even Grant got in on the action. But only once and he absolutely refused to do it again.
Then the really painful part started. They both tried to surf. Great laughs, let me tell you, but is it any wonder that they were quite sore the next day?
We had a great time in Sunriver with all of us wondering why we didn't stay longer. The house we stayed in had a wonderful layout and was clean and well kept, the bike trails, nature center, Mavericks, golfing, plus they had a huge outdoor pool with a couple of water slides that we didn't get a chance to explore. If you ever get a chance to go, do it!

Thanks for the laughs, Holley and James! Good thing surfing isn't part of a tri.
What a wonderful vacation...good friends, beautiful scenery, fun, relaxing times and yummy food. Thanks for the videos and pictures. Poor James and his flops.
