I didn't really know Uncle Bob very well, he came around for holidays and was closest to my mom and my aunts. He had a schedule with each of them on what day and time he would call them so he could talk and feel less lonely.
But I will leave it to what my mom wrote for him and share a few pictures:
Here is my great-grandparents with their children (L-R) Francis, Donna (my grandmother), Bob, John
Here is Bob with John (Bob is in front).
Bob is standing next to my grandmother, with John and my great-grandfather.
Not sure where exactly this picture was taken but one of the few we have of him by himself:
Bob was in the 2nd Infantry Division in the Army. While in Korea in 1951 he fought in the battles of Bloody Ridge and Heartbreak Ridge., two battles fought between August 18th and October 15, 1951 He achieved the rank of Corporal. He was awarded a Combat Infantry Badge for serving under hostile fire in active ground combat with the enemy.
Although Robert, aka Bob or U.B. or Uncle Bob, lived alone, he had many who loved him and he will be greatly missed. He made weekly phone calls to his nieces and with all those phone calls—the phone company will miss him also.
Bob loved to walk and hike. He hiked much of the northern part of the Pacific Crest Trail that runs along the Pacific Coast from the Mexican Border to the Canadian Border.
He enjoyed finding bargains while shopping and sharing information about sales that he had found.
All those who knew him understood that ”Cotton Pickin’” was not a good thing!
His favorite excuse for not getting something done was “On account of the Gout”!
